Mobile technology pioneer Penrillian is announcing the appointment of its new Chief Executive, Joanne Thompson, as it looks to accelerate its growth strategy in the transport and technology industries.

Joanne joins the mobile software development company following a career leading significant growth and change of technology companies; including roles as Managing Director of Serco’s Transport Technology division, Senior Vice President of BT in Europe, and European Director of Professional Services at Equant.

Penrillian is one of the world’s longest established developers in mobile technology. Millions of people use its software daily; from contactless payment solutions and wireless dongles to ticket and mobile money apps developed for major clients including Vodafone, EE, 02, TUI and PrePay Solutions.

Joanne, who achieved her MBA in Business at Cranfield Business School and studied Politics and International Relations at Lancaster University, will lead the implementation of Penrillian’s three year strategic plan to accelerate the pace of growth, through the development of new products and services.

Joanne Thompson said: “Penrillian has a strong track record in delivering real innovation in the mobile tech field. The transport industry, in common with a number of other technology enabled industries, is undergoing a digital revolution and we are pursuing some extremely exciting opportunities for our customers in this market. Penrillian’s solid experience in delivering secure and reliable software solutions for mobile money in the FinTech sector leaves it perfectly placed to offer trusted solutions in new and adjacent markets. I am confident that the team at Penrillian is positioned to achieve further growth in the travel and transport market, amongst others, in 2016 with new and innovative solutions for our customers.”

“Together with my new role at Penrillian, I remain passionate about enabling the advancement of the next generation of women in the transport and technology sectors. As a member of both Women on Board and Women in Transportation, I hope to coach and support women in the industry to find the opportunities and recognition they deserve.”

Charles Weir, Chairman of Penrillian said,
“Joanne is bringing a vast wealth of experience from the world of transport and technology to Penrillian and I am confident she is the right person to steer the organisation towards its objective of acquiring a larger share of the transport and technology markets.”

The announcement of Joanne’s appointment comes at an exciting time for Penrillian, having addressed the Conservative Party Autumn Conference with a presentation about the history and future of ticketing technology.
